Discussion:
How to repogram an ntl smart box for 18866
(too old to reply)

Dear all:

The subject says it all really!

18866 don't offer Carrier Pre Select, so as I have an ntl smart box (that
dials 1263) I'd like to reprogram this to pre dial 18866 for all my calls
except 0800 free calls.

Can anyone advise if it is possible to do this - and if so, how? If not
possible any suggestions?

Thanks in advance.

If your NTL smart box is made by Dataflex we will take it as a trade-in for
our Call18866 router box (see http://lcr.inventeer.com).

If not than you can still buy one of our Call18866 router box without the
trade in :)

Does this offer also apply to Freeserve dialer boxes?

If they are manufactured by Dataflex and still functional then Yes.

Not sure about the manufacturer - it's Model SD002, s/n 00308744, made in
China and designed by OEL/DEL. It's unused - arrived from Freeserve without
me requesting it - so I've no reason to believe it's not functional.

If it doesn't say Dataflex on the back then it is probably not a Dataflex
dialler.

Assuming that what is in the case is really an SD002 then the dialler
is probably a Dialogue DSD002 also referred to as a DSD2A and is
AFAIK the same as (similar function) an Orchid V2 dialler. It is not
a Dataflex.

The SD002 is easily programmed, it is a simple dialler. See
http://pixie.oum.ox.ac.uk/~yan/smartdialler.html

You will need the password to do any programming. If you don't know
it and it aint the default 0000 then it is probably useless.

And, in fact, identical in appearance.

Thanks, I'll check this out. If it doesn't work, I'll maybe look at the
Orchid V4 - I like the idea of the time-of-day feature.

No problem, I have programmed a few of them, and am using two myself (One on
each of the two lines in the house) all seems to work just fine

If you want to bypass 18866 for any reason, just dial ## before the number,
and it wont auto prefix.

One thing you do need to do, is include two (or maybe it was three) pauses
after the 0808 number if you are on cable, or it doesn't work properly.

I have an old Dialler, no idea who it is for, but it is a Dataflex UK164

Can this be reprogrammed by myself somehow?

Unfortunately the Dataflex routers are not programmable by the end user. You
will need access to the management platform or a factory programming jig.

Me too. I sniffed around and it seems if you program the box the
changes will be lost every time the dialler phones home and gets new
settings.
